Looking For A Book, TV Show, Or Movie Lost From Your Memory?--Try Blogging!

Have you ever found yourself in the predicament where you have vague memories of a book, television show, song, or movie from your childhood, but you just can't pinpoint what it was, exactly? Or perhaps you have located the title, but now you don't know how to get your hands on a copy of it?

Trust me, if anyone knows how frustrating this can be, it's me. I was a real bookworm as a kid, so I gobbled up virtually anything I could get from the shelves of my school's library. I read so much that it was difficult to keep track of titles and authors.

But fortunately, I discovered that many blogging sites feature communities devoted to the purpose of helping people like me remember movies, TV programs, books, and much more from their past.

You will need to offer at least a few details in order to help bloggers help you, but you might be surprised by just how easily a whole community can spot a familiar book (or movie, or what have you). So, just say whatever you can remember, even if it is as simple as, "It was a fantasy novel about owls with a red cover."

What is nice is that you can then use a search engine or your favorite auction site to check fellow bloggers' suggested possibilities. From there, you can gain access to pictures, synopses, the author's name, and more, which will certainly jog your memory.

Using the internet also has its advantages because even if the item is out of print or is no longer circulating in the mainstream market, you will be able to find what you are looking for through online auctions and specialty sites, plus you can find tons of links to related items.

However, you should always remember good common sense. Don't get so excited over finding a long-lost item that you go through a site that seems unreliable.

For instance, I found a site that claimed to be selling all seven seasons of one of my favorite television shows. I knew for a fact that the company that held the rights to the show had only release four of the seasons.

As I continued to explore this particular site, I found out they were illegally burning DVDs of poor-quality content. To be honest, I was still tempted, but in the long run, I have been very satisfied that I didn't fall for it; it would have probably led to a big mess of regrets. So be careful!

Why Stand In Long Lines For Movie Rentals When Can Rent Them Online?

Movies are a good part of every person's life so much that if you do not like movies then you must not be an American. Even if you do not like most movies there has to be a movie that you like. So that is a big enough reason to make a company that rents movies. It is called Netflix and what they do is online DVD rentals. It is simple all you do is go online to there website and fill out all the info then you pay one bill a month and you get all the DVDs that you want. I think you get either 3 or 5 DVDs at a time and then after that you just watch them and return them then as soon as they receive the ones you have returned you will be able to pick another few to sit down and watch at home. It is pretty simple and easy and it is better then going to the movie rental place and getting late fees and having to pay for other peoples mistakes like your kids. Anyways all that I am saying is that it is a good company to do business with if you are interested in movies.

Netflix is just so easy and fun that it is impossible not to be a customer of theirs. All you do is like I said fill out all of the info and then you either pay a bill first or they will let you pick out your movies then you pay your first bill at the end of your first month or something. I don't really know too much about them because my brother used them a lot but I didn't and he seemed to love them. He would watch movies and then return them for more. I think you can rent as many as you want. I don't really know how much or many you can get at a time but I am positive that you can get at least 5 at a time because I picked 5 out when I was staying at his house for a few days. It is so simple to use and after you are done you just put them in your mailbox and then you are done.

The best thing about renting movies online is there are no late fees. That is right no late fees and you will never have to pay late fees ever again if you rent through Netflix.

There are a few online movie renters but I only know of Netflix and I have heard that blockbuster will rent as well. Even though I don't know that blockbuster for sure rents DVDs all you would need to do is go into a blockbuster in public and just ask them. If they didn't know then they don't need to be working there and then you would need to go online and look them up to see if they did online DVD rentals. You would just go online and have a gander.

Dog Movie Stars or Dogs in Movies

People who like dogs also like movies with dogs in them, especially dogs as the star of the film. Dogs have been in flicks since silent films. The most notable example is the dog in the 1921 Charlie Chaplin flick entitled The Kid.

Rin Tin Tin was the first canine to be the star of a movie. He was a messenger dog of the Germans in World War I; he was rescued by an American aviator that brought Rin Tin Tin home with him to the states. The veteran noticed that Rin Tin Tin was exceptionally smart and put him into show business. This dog star was in 22 films in ten years from 1922 to 1932. He become famous the world over an always played a good guy that fought for the innocent victim. His descendents kept his role going and eventually were on TV as Rin Tin Tin. He was portrayed in 3 different radio series from 1930 to 1955, but the sound effects were not done by the original Rin Tin Tin in all three.

In 1943 Lassie started her movie career in the film Lassie Come Home; she was the second canine superstar. The original Lassie was in six more flicks. The television show Lassie debuted in 1954 and continued for 19 years in which the descendents of the original dog, whose real name was Pal, portrayed Lassie.

Fictionally, Lassie is a female, but the dogs playing her part on TV have been male collies. The reason is male dogs have a thicker coast during the summer making them look better for filming and since they are bigger than females, a child star can act with the dog longer before he outgrows the dog in a visual sense. Lassie was the perfect example of a dog being loyal to her master and it was particularly touching because her master was a child named Timmy. She also exampled unconditional love.

The setting of the novel and the first Lassie films was in Britain. The author of the original short story and the novel was Eric Knight. He published the novel in 1940. The Lassie concept has survived for decades and new series have been produced during the 1980's and the1990's.

Rin Tin Tin and Lassie are the two most famous dog stars that have had long careers of their own and through their descendents. Toto is a famous dog star from the 1939 film The Wizard of Oz. The next two most famous dog stars are Benji and Beethoven. Benji movies total at five and there was a TV series. Benji was a mixed Pyrenean Shepherd.

The movie Beethoven debuted in 1992. Beethoven's 2nd came out in 1993. Beethoven's 3rd, 4th, and 5th appeared in 2000, 2001, and 2003 respectively. The film Beethoven's Big Break came out in 2008. After Beethoven's 2nd the films went directly to video bypassing the theater route. In 1993 a cartoon version of Beethoven was created.

None of the dogs in various films and TV shows have been as successful as Rin Tin Tin and Lassie.

Rodney Dangerfield Remembered: The Comedian's Lifetime Of Comedy

He was recognized by his trademark phrase - "I don't get no respect."

Born on November 22, 1921 in Babylon, New York, Rodney Dangerfield began writing jokes at age 15 and performing his comedy by his late teens. For ten years, he struggled as a stand up comedian and worked as a singing waiter to make ends meet. When his comedy career failed to really take off, Dangerfield, who had been working in entertainment as Jack Roy, left show business for a regular job. He spent the 1950's selling aluminum siding in New Jersey while supporting his first wife and two children.

He took another chance at show business after his divorce in 1961 and became known for the rest of his life as Rodney Dangerfield. By this time, he was approaching his fortieth birthday. His big break came when he appeared as a guest on "The Ed Sullivan Show." He did what few people were able to do - he made Ed Sullivan laugh. During the 1960's he made the rounds of many of the most popular variety shows. He performed his standup on "The Joey Bishop Show," "The Merv Griffin Show" and "The Jackie Gleason Show." In 1969 he made his first of 35 appearances on "The Tonight Show Starring Johnny Carson." In addition to his gigs on television, he spent his time making the rounds of comedy clubs throughout the country.

In 1969, the comedian opened his own standup comedy club, Dangerfield's in New York City. From its inception, it has been one of the most popular comedy clubs in America, receiving rave reviews by top newspapers and entertainment guides. Since Dangerfield's opened its doors almost 40 years ago it has seen the likes of Jay Leno, Jim Carey, Chris Rock, Andrew Dice Clay, Tim Allen and Jerry Seinfeld grace its stage. Many of the comedy club's biggest draws find themselves as guests on "The Tonight Show with Jay Leno" or "Late Night With David Letterman."

Having cemented his place in stand up comedy history, Dangerfield turned his attention to acting. He had his first movie role in the 1971 film The Projectionist and had a role on the television show "Benny and Barney: Las Vegas Undercover" later in the decade. The acting roles came slowly but in 1980 he landed a role that made him a household name. He starred as the obnoxious real estate developer Al Czervik in the comedy smash Caddy Shack. Suddenly people who didn't know much about comedians knew all about Rodney Dangerfield.

He followed Caddy Shack with two other 1980's comedies, Easy Money and Back To School. In 1991, he made the animated movie Rover Dangerfield, the story of a dog that gets no respect. Throughout his career, his line about getting no respect was his trademark.

Dangerfield branched out into a serious role next. He played the abusive father to Juliette Lewis' character in the controversial film Natural Born Killers. It has been reported that Dangerfield was allowed to write his own lines for the role. This was to be his only serious film role. He followed it with more comedies like Meet Wally Sparks and The Godson. In 2000, the almost 80-year-old comedian starred alongside Adam Sandler in Little Nicky.

His very last acting role was that of God in 2005's Angels with Angels. It was released posthumously. Dangerfield died on October 5, 2004. He had fallen into a coma after heart surgery and never regained consciousness. His tombstone reflects his comedy. It reads "Rodney Dangerfield - There Goes the Neighborhood."

His comedy career spanned over 60 years. In addition to all of his stage and screen accomplishments during those years, he also won two awards for his achievements. In 1981 he won a Grammy Award for his comedy recording titled No Respect. In 1995 the American Comedy Awards honored him with a Creative Achievement Award.

One of his lesser-known achievements was that he was the first entertainment personality to have his own website. In 1995 he created Rodney.com, which is still in existence today.

During Rodney Dangerfield's career he had success on the comedy stage, in film, and on the television. He gave countless other comedians the chance to show their stuff on the stage at his own comedy club. His trademark line, "I don't get no respect" will forever be associated with the comedian who in spite of his onstage persona was loved and respected by millions of fans.

Choosing Educational Videos for Children

Today, videos have become a very popular means of entertainment among children of all ages. It isn't uncommon for children to spend much of their free time watching their favorite movies or television shows. The invention of the portable DVD player has enhanced the already great role video entertainment can play in a child's day, as it allows parents to take DVD videos wherever children go. This however, creates considerable concern about what today's youngsters are watching. Some DVD and television entertainment is valuable to a child's education, as well as entertaining. Others are not. For this reason, parents should choose their children's videos with great care.

The first factor in choosing the right educational videos for children is to choose educational movies and shows that will match their interests. If you fail to keep a child's interests in mind, the child will be less likely to watch the videos you choose, and may easily become bored and restless. However, if your child is interested in the chosen topic, he or she is much more likely to absorb the contents and remember them later. This way, educational videos will have a more positive and lasting effect on your child.

By choosing the right kinds of videos, you will be able to prevent your children from watching programs you, as the parent, deem undesirable or inappropriate. If you choose videos for your children, you will be able to better monitor the content and quality of each video. You will also be more in touch with what your child is learning, and by familiarizing yourself with the content, be able to discuss the videos with your children. This will also let them know that you are taking an interest in what they are watching and learning.

There are many different titles out there from which to choose, and you want to be sure that the ones you purchase are videos that your children will want to watch. You don't want to invest in educational videos, just to have them sit on the shelf. Before choosing titles, start by getting feedback from your children. Show them the videos you are considering, and find out which videos and topics spark their interest.

When choosing educational videos for your children, it's also important to keep their ages in mind. Purchasing highly educational videos for older children, for example, is often not the best use of time or money. Often, it will result in a lack of attention, leading to a library of videos that your children never watch.

Lastly, watch any videos that you purchase with your children. These videos are meant to be a learning tool, designed to help children have fun while they learn. Videos are not, however, designed to be babysitters. The more interest you take in the lives of your children, the more you will be able to monitor what they watch, and improve their education.

Some Ideas On How To Reach The Stars To Get The Autographs You Want

If you haven't attempted to collect autographs you may not understand all that is involved in the undertaking. In addition to how hard it is to get the autographs in the first place some celebrities even keep track of the people that they send the autographs to in order to try to reduce or eliminate people making money off of them, at least on a repetitive basis. Of course in some cases the collectors are actually paying for the autographs in the 1st place. I have heard stories of celebrities and even sports stars such as Emitt Smith charging for their autograph.

There are many different forms of collecting autographs from just signatures to finding letters written by a famous person that can really be valuable depending upon the subject matter. For example a letter written to a previously unknown or undocumented love interest would be very valuable. For example, can you imagine how much a love letter between JFK and Marilyn Monroe that was documented as authentic would be worth? That is of course assuming it made it pas the government.

One of the reasons why Marilyn Monroe memorabilia is so valuable is because it is so rare due to her short life. There are only so many autographs from her. Contrast that to someone like Ronald Reagan who in addition to being President was a movie star for many years. The fact of the matter is that the long life a person had the easier it is to get their autograph and this can also make the autographs less valuable. As with anything it is all about supply and demand and those in short supply will be worth more. In our time now, a star like Kurt Cobain or Anna Nicole could have very valuable autographs again due to the short lives they lived.

If you are a true autograph hound you will need to have a modicum of discretionary funds to use for travel expenses and the like to be able to rub shoulders with those whom you look to collect signatures from. You need to be able to attend events such as political conventions to collect signatures and take pictures with upcoming and famous political figures and go to sporting events to have a chance of getting them from famous sports figures. An autograph from Governor Schwarzenegger now serves double duty as a celebrity and political collector's item.

You have to be willing to travel and get to the locations that the celebs congregate around to get the autographs you want and be willing to take some chances. Your hard work and planning will be well rewarded in the future by the appreciation of the autographs in the future. It also helps to have a little bit of prognostication skill to know who may become a big thing before they become famous.
